Living Wills

Living Wills are intended to let your loved ones and doctors know your wishes if you should be in a position where you cannot physically relay these yourself at a time when medical treatment may be needed.

You will be able to advise how and what treatment you should receive, to alleviate pain or to prolong your life.

These forms of Will have not been tested in Courts and it is unclear at present as to the extent they may be legally binding.

Powers of Attorney

There are many occasions when you may wish to give to someone you trust a Power of Attorney:
A Power of Attorney will enable someone of your choice to sign your cheques, pay your bills and/or sell your property if necessary.  This will take the burden away from you if you are not able to deal with these for any reason.

Once made a Power of Attorney may be put away and used only when you ask your Attorney to take over your affairs.   The Attorney is your representative and should act in your best interests.

If you become unable to deal with your affairs whether physically or mentally a Lasting Power of Attorney will enable your chosen Attorney to step in if necessary and deal with your affairs in your place.

Court of Protection

On occasions sadly a family member or friend may become mentally incapable of dealing with their affairs.  In those circumstances we can assist you in obtaining an Order from the Court of Protection to be appointed Deputy.  This would be necessary to deal with the person's affairs if he or she had not made an Enduring Power of Attorney.

We can also advise and assist in dealing with the affairs of your loved one after the Order is made.

If you are not able or are unhappy to be Deputy we may be able to step in and one of our Partners may be willing to be appointed in your place, so that the financial aspects of helping your family member or friend will be taken off your shoulders.
